Digital Course Material Fee Program

What is a Digital Course Material Fee?

Digital course materials are delivered to your Canvas course page prior to the first day of class and charged on your student account. The bookstore will not place traditional orders for your textbooks because all of your students will receive the book electronically. This way you get the content your instructor selected at drastically reduced prices. Often the digital materials include interactive learning tools, but sometimes the digital course material will be a standalone eBook with helpful study tools.

How does it work?

The digital course materials costs are included in your class fees and appear on your bill as “Mat’l Fee w/Sales Tx” You will receive an email at your pencol.com email account explaining how to access the materials or Look for a link to the online materials in canvas If you drop the class during the add/drop period, no need to do a thing, you will automatically be refunded. If for some reason you do not wish to obtain your course materials in this manner, you may choose not to. This option is referred to as “opt-out.” You can choose to opt out via a link in canvas. If you opt out of accessing your course materials in this way, the fee will be refunded on your student account after the add/drop date. For the first week, you can opt out and opt back in as many times as you want while maintaining access. However, if the digital material is a standalone eBook, you will immediately lose access upon opting out, and would have to opt back in to regain access before the add/drop deadline. Note: If you opt out, you are still responsible for purchasing your required course materials directly through the publisher.

What if you really want to have a printed book in addition to the eBook?

The bookstore can special order books for most of these courses, or there may be a link included with your digital course materials to purchase a print copy directly from the publisher. These printed materials are only for students who do not opt out. You’ll need the digital access to complete your assignments.
